Communications Network and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) are important functions of a substation automation system (SAS). Measuring the propagation delays and assessing the interoperability performance of IED's in an Ethernet architecture play a critical role in the operation of substation. This paper studies the application of Ethernet in Digital Substation Automation System (DSAS). Then several causes that greatly affect the performance of network are evaluated based on detailed test data. The results of such analysis proposed the key points of promoting a network in digital substation automation system.
